the 6th mass extinction

Earth's ecosystems have evolved over millions of years, resulting in diverse and complex biological communities living in balance with their environment. Most of us do not realize that what we use is directly related to the natural balance of the planet.

In the last 50 years, we have lost 60% of all wildlife, 50% of all rainforests and 50% of all corals. Our planet is currently in the midst of its sixth mass extinction of plants and animals, it is the sixth time in the history of the planet that species are experiencing a major global collapse in numbers. We're currently experiencing the worst spate of species die-offs since the loss of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. A recent UN report shows that one million species face the risk of extinction, many within decades.

Although extinction is a natural phenomenon, scientists estimate that we're now losing species 1,000 times faster than the normal rate, with literally dozens going extinct every day. Approximately,10,000 species go extinct every year. Half a million plants and animals currently have "insufficient habitat for long term survival".

99 percent of the current threats to species are caused by human activities, primarily those driving habitat loss, exploitation, global warming and pollution. With the increasing loss of biodiversity today, the balance of our ecosystem is being destroyed, which many fear will result in catastrophic scenarios.

Humanity must wake up to the fact that our future, and all life on earth, is on the brink of irreversible collapse.

Therefore the #theconsciouschallenge of this week (and every week after) is about sharing an act of kindness. We are all part of this amazing planet. In our constant attempt to avoid discomfort, we have looked away from all the damage being done. Be the change you wish to see in this world and start giving. If you light a lamp for somebody, it will also brighten your path!

share an act of kindness and win a 10-ride summer pass from The conscious club

We are all part of this amazing planet. In our constant attempt to avoid discomfort, we have looked away from all the damage being done.

But if we look deep enough into our hearts, into our souls and into our minds, we will discover that our only obligation on this planet is to push each and everyone forward, towards their highest potential.

Life here is a giant mystery and we have been put here to explore Earth in all its magnificent forms. Do good, live fearlessly, and die kind.

Therefore the #theconsciouschallenge of this week (and every week after) is about sharing an act of kindness. Do groceries for your old neighbor, give a homeless person a helping hand, put water on your balcony for the insects and the birds during this hot summer week, invite a friend in need for dinner, pick up trash from the street, be the change you wish to see in this world and start giving.

If you light a lamp for somebody, it will also brighten your path.

We have two 10-ride Summer Passes from The Conscious Club to give away!
